Pope Francis says that all religions lead to God, and he is absolutely correct.

Before all of you "trad" and "faithful" christians or catholics get your shorts in a bunch and start in with the rash judgement, let's take a deep breath.....

Breath in....... Hold,,,,,, Breath out.        Breath in........Hold........Breath out......

OK. Now that we have relaxed our muscles and a we have a brain full of oxygen, let's discuss.

The article is here: https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breaking-pope-francis-every-religion-is-a-way-to-arrive-at-god/

Now, let's break down the article, and analyze what is said and the context in which it was said.

"Pope Francis today told young people of different faiths that “every religion is a way to arrive at God.”

Addressing an inter-religious meeting of young people in Singapore just before departing for his return flight to Rome, Pope Francis turned to one of the central themes of his pontificate – inter-religious dialogue."

So far, so good. The Pope is speaking to a group of young people of different faiths, and he is addressing the topic of religious dialogue.

The Pope NOT speaking to all of the faithful. The Pope is NOT speaking from the chair of Peter. The Pope is NOT speaking infallibly, not in the least. He is speaking to a mixed group of young people, and the topic is dialogue. ALL GOOD.

“One of the things that struck me about all of you here is your ability to engage in inter-religious dialogue, and this is very important,” he told the crowd, assembled in Singapore’s Catholic Junior College.

Nothing evil here. Let's continue.

There is only one God and each of has a language to arrive at God. Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, they are different paths.

The Pope’s words were warmly welcomed Leaving aside his prepared speech and speaking without a script {transcript subsequently published here}, Francis instead spoke chiefly on dialogue between religions, having just taken questions from a Catholic, a Sikh, and a Hindu.

The Pope is speaking as an individual person, "off the cuff" so to speak. And what did he speak about? Dialog between religions. Once again, he is NOT speaking to the whole Church, from the Chair of Peter, in an encyclical, a Papal Bull, or anything other mechanism that could be considered infallible. Moving on:

The meeting’s widely varied mix of creeds represents Singapore’s status as one of the most diverse religious nations in the world. Focusing on this, Francis urged that no religion be given priority but that individuals instead focus on parity between beliefs:

If we start to fight amongst ourselves and say “my religion is more important than yours, my religion is true, yours is not,” where will that lead us? Where?

It’s okay to discuss [between religions].

All good so far. Now we get to the problematic parts:

Continuing, the Pope declared that each religion is a means to attain God, stating:

Every religion is a way to arrive at God. There are different languages to arrive at God, but God is God for all. And how is God God for all? We are all sons and daughters of God. But my god is more important than your god, is that true?

There is only one God and each of  by those present in the hall, which included leaders and representatives of Singapore’s many religious bodies and the large papal retinue.

A HA!! Gotcha Pope you evil apostate heretic you!!

NOT. SO. FAST.

First check out this list. It is a list of the 255 infallibly declared dogmas of the Church, and the 102 certain truths that are yet undefined by the Magisterium I know the source for these, so they are legit:

http://holyjoe.org/dogmas.pdf

Now let's compare Certain truth number 2 with certain truth number 44. Certain Truth number 44 states:

44. God gives all innocent unbelievers (infideles negativi) sufficient grace to achieve eternal salvation.

Certain truth number 2 states:

2. Our natural knowledge of God in this world is not as immediate, intuitive cognition, but a mediate, abstractive knowledge, because it is attained through the knowledge of creatures.

Notice the actual wording of the Pope:

"Arrive" at God.

"Attain" God.

What does the Pope NOT say? The Pope did not say that other religions can "obtain" God. He did not say that you could "achieve" salvation in another religion. The terms he used, "attain" and "arrive" are in total agreement with Catholic teaching.

BTW, if you are not using the websters dictionary of 1828 for your official definition of words, now would be a good time to start:

https://webstersdictionary1828.com/

Please don't take my word for it. If you research it yourself, you will see that the key to what the Pope said is the difference between the words "ATTAIN" and "OBTAIN" (synonymous with achieve)

With this knowledge, let's review what the Pope ACTUALLY SAID. He used the phrase " Attain God" once, and the phrase "Arrive at God" three times.  And what does this mean? It means that, according to the definitions of the words, we can ATTAIN knowledge of God (in this world, due to our own effort) in order to OBTAIN eternal salvation (in the next world, due to no effort on our part). SOLID CATHOLIC DOCTRINE.

The rest of the article is non-controversial.

IN SUMMATION:

1 - The Pope was not speaking to the whole Church or infallibly in any way

2 - The Pope, according to the definitions of attain, arrive, obtain, and achieve, said NOTHING WRONG, or in contradiction with what the Church teaches or believes.

So, before you give in to rash judgement, and leave the one and only Church because you think the Pope is not the Pope, do these things:

1 - Read what was actually said.

2 - Look up the true definitions of the words that are used.

3 - Compare what was said with what the Church actually teaches.

Don't be lazy. Investigate and THINK. Don't let the internet get you worked up. You're still in the one and only Church. Relax.
